International Women’s Day 2020: How Sahara India Pariwar has promoted “girl power” over the years

Subrata Roy Sahara Womens Day

“Yatra Naryastu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devta”

The well-known Sanskrit proverb is something Sahara India Pariwar has always abided by. Empowering women has always been a core value for the group, inspired by Saharasri Subrata Roy’s mission of creating a better, all-inclusive society.

Saharasri draws great inspiration from his beloved mother, Late Smt. Chhabi Roy, and accredits his success to her. He recognizes and appreciates the important role of his mother as well as his wife, Smt. Swapna Roy, have played in propelling his life towards a brighter path. It is for the same reason that he believes that women deserve equal opportunities, and that their talents must be honed.

Driven by Saharasri’s vision, Sahara India Pariwar, throughout its operations over the years, has sponsored numerous sportspersons, mostly women, to realize their dreams of excellence in their respective fields. From Saina Nehwal to PV Sindhu, Sahara India has supported numerous talented women for a long time.

One of the most recent examples of Sahara India’s appreciation of women’s performance in sports has been the special felicitation ceremony organized in Mumbai to honor PV Sindhu after her major win in the finals of BWF World Championships 2019. The event was attended by several Bollywood celebrities who rallied together to applaud Sindhu for her outstanding performance.

Apart from backing badminton stars, Sahara India has also been the sponsor of women’s hockey, cricket and volleyball teams. These sponsorships not only helped cultivate a sporting culture among Indian women, it also brought the recognition which was long due for women’s sport participation in India.

Providing women with better opportunities and better resources, and acknowledging their efforts has been always ingrained in the philosophy Sahara India Pariwar works on. We salute women for their indomitable spirit!
